My Moffatt Story
I absolutely despised The Moffatts when they first released "I'll Be There For You". I couldn't stand them. I hated them. Their song was irritating and their video was disgusting. I cursed at the radio and turned it off when they played their song. One day they did an interview. So I turned it off. The next day I went to Lougheed Mall and saw 'Music World' had wallpapered their entire store with Moffatt posters because the Moffatts were doing a signing the next day there. I was so embarassed. Why were they coming to MY city?! I avoided that mall for awhile.
Few months later, this girl called me. It was a dull, hot and sunny day. It was nearing the end of summer vacation. She asked me to go down to PNE right then to go see the Moffatts with her. Confused, because this caught me very off guard. I vaguely remembered I wasn't very pleased with them a few months ago but I wanted to do something fun and spontaneous. And this girl was "cool" and I so wasn't. I couldn't decline right? Oh no. So, giddily I grabbed some food and headed out the door, mystified that I was going to a real concert for the first time and wondered about the four young men that would soon be my highlights for the years to come.
I arrived, expecting the worst and the best. Although, their enthusiam was minimal it didn't rain on their performance too much. At the end, no one could've wiped that grin off me. It was plastered firmly across my face for the following weeks. I raced, the very next day to the mall and purchased 'Chapter One: A New Beginning'. My headphones were glued to my head day and night. The following day I discovered their website at the library. I didn't have the internet at home so I'd go to friend's houses and the library as often as I could to read up on this section that had Moffatt stories and concert reviews (gone now). It was either very late August or sometime in September 1998 I signed up for the Moffatts message board. There wasn't anything there but I wanted to be part of it. My computer illeracy couldn't tell me what an e-mail was. So I simply altered the example given so I could sign up. Something along the lines of joe@email.com or joe@aol.com. Something. Ofcourse then I was just stuck and very confused.
On March 17 1999 my Moffatt buddy gave my the gift of the world wide web. I scrambled onto the Moffatts webpage, sitting there for hours on end reading every last word I could. By then I knew what emails were and I got one and signed up, finally, for this 'Message Board'. Virtual Jen was: sunny_jen. Within a week, my friend (moffatts_princess) and I found a purpose worth posting about: We found out the Moffatts might be cancelling their autograph session at Wal-Mart, Brentwood Mall. Which in the end they did.
So my story continues... another day
